What Are The Benefits Of Stearic Acid?

What is Stearic Acid?

Stearic Acid is a fatty acid found primarily in animal derivatives, but in vegetable fats as well. It is used in a variety of cosmetics and personal care products, as a fragrance ingredient, surfactant and emulsifier. It is also used as the base for the manufacture of other fatty acid ingredients which are used as emulsifers, emollients and lubricants, It is also used as an ingredient in candles, plastics, dietary supplements, oil pastels, and for softening rubber; it is a frequent ingredient in soaps made from vegetable oil, and is used to harden the product (Wikipedia).

Name: Stearic Acid
Molecular Formula: C18H36O2
Molecular Weight: 284.48
CAS Registry Number: 57-11-4
EINECS: 200-313-4

Why use Stearic Acid?

Stearic acid is a waxy oil fraction that acts as a lubricant to fill capsules when a dry powdered ingredient (or ingredient mix) is uncooperative, based on issues involving density, stickiness, flowability under pressure, etc. It is also used as an ingredient that helps tablets hold together and break apart properly.
Stearic acid (also called Octadecanoic Acid) is one of the most common long-chain fatty acids, found in both natural animal and vegetable fats, known also by its structural description of being an 18-carbon chain fatty acid (18:0) with a chemical structure of C36H70MgO4.

Application of Stearic Acid

1.It’s widely used in producing of PVC pipes, plates, profiles and film.
2.It’s used in producing stearate, such as Sodium Stearate, Magnesium Stearate, Calcium Stearate,
3.Lead Stearate, Aluminium Stearate, Cadmium Stearate, Iron Stearate, Potassium Stearate.
4.It’s used as kinds of chemical additives, like plasticizer, mould release agent, stabilizer, surfactant agent, rubber vulcanizing agent, waterproof agent,
polishing agent, flotation agent,softening agent, etc.
5.It could be used in PVC production as lubricant;
