Basic information of 18-βGlycyrrhetinic acid 

Enoxolone (18-β-Glycyrrhetinic Acid) is obtained from the roots of the licorice plant (Glycyrrhiza glabra L and/or of Glycyrrhiza inflata Bat. and/or of Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch) by extraction and purification methods. This product appears as a white or almost-white crystalline powder that is practically insoluble in water, and soluble in ethylene and propylene glycol. It is also slightly soluble in vegetable oil.

Enoxolone (18-β-Glycyrrhetinic Acid) can be used in the treatment of affections of the upper respiratory tract, such as aphonia and pharyngitis, and can be used to treat buccal inflammatory infections and sensitive gums.

β-Glycyrrhetinic Acid is an aglycone of the triterpenoid Glyccyrrhizic acid, which is found in liquorice. inhibits the PGDH (15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase) leading to increased prostaglandin concentration in the digestive system. Also investigated for potential antibiotic activities.
